SimSimple in Practice: Training the Trainer

SimSimple in Practice: Training the Trainer

In a recent simulation faculty development workshop, the SimSimple Paediatrics Module played a key role—not in teaching clinical care, but in sharpening the skills of future simulation educators.

Participants used a laminated paediatric patient and visual equipment props to run a status epilepticus scenario. A few stepped into clinical roles, while the rest practiced their debriefing techniques, with a deliberate focus on teamwork elements like:

  • Explicit and implicit communication

  • Managing team stress

  • Building shared mental models

What made it especially effective? The accessibility.

Using SimSimple meant the session could be held in a standard workshop room rather than a sim centre. With no need for manikins or technical setup, participants could dive straight into scenario delivery and reflection—making the most of limited time and space.

This is a great example of Visually Enhanced Mental Simulation (VEMS) being used not only to teach teams, but to develop the educators who train them.

How are you using SimSimple in faculty development?
